JOB SUMMARY

The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Data Analyst must possess strong business acumen and a dynamic personality as this position interacts with management and business teams on multiple projects to drive performance and support company initiatives. The Analyst will design, develop and deliver high‐quality analysis and reports that meet the business’s needs and improve overall results. The Analyst will assist in supporting advanced analytics capabilities throughout POET, including identifying business problems that better analytics can address.  

 

DURING A TYPICAL DAY

  • Obtaining a deep understanding of the business so as to be able to identify the business problems that better analytics can address.   
  • Creating self-service analytics using data discovery tools featuring basic statistical modeling, allowing users to transform raw data into curated datasets and diagnose the financial and nonfinancial drivers of business performance.
  • Assisting in the effort to drive alignment of POET’s data strategy vision and mission.
  • Performing a variety of reporting assignments requiring knowledge of an emerging set of capabilities and tools that allow users to positively impact the bottom line, improve operational efficiency or decision making.
  • Serving as a business partner to the biorefineries and business units by providing financial advice. Act as an independent resource to evaluate opportunities, perform value add analyses and special projects.
  • Develop a deep understanding of forecasting tools so as to be able to assist in the preparation of the annual plan and quarterly rolling forecasts.
  • Developing appropriate and meaningful methods of communicating complex financial data in an easy-to-understand format, including developing reports, dashboards, and presentations for communicating operational and financial results.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Completion of Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business, or related discipline.
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, data warehousing, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques.
  • Basic understanding of financial statements and concepts.
  • A strong intellectual curiosity that drives you to develop deep business subject matter expertise.
  • Knowledge of analytical tools/software (R, Python, Power BI, JMP); querying languages/data bases (SQL).
  • Strategic Thinker – Ability to see alternatives and sort through the risks and opportunities; connect random things to find meaning, value, information or explanation.
  • A relator, who builds strong relationships through networking.
  • Sound problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to suggest solutions.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets and proactively identify issues and make recommendations.
