JOB SUMMARY

The Finance Data Analyst plays a vital role in partnering with business leaders to provide meaningful insights into financial results, supporting operational business decisions. This role examines business processes, reporting, and priorities and utilizes technical and analytical skills to build and enhance data management processes, develop KPI metrics and create analysis that is actionable and aligns with business needs. Collaboration with POET’s leadership team, finance and IT teams to build and execute POET’s vision for financial controls, reporting, processes and systems is key to the success of this role.

 

A TYPICAL DAY COULD INCLUDE:

  • Using financial and operational data to identify and clearly communicate key business drivers, operational assumptions, KPI metrics, emerging trends, and other key variables.
  • Reviewing and analyzing financial results and providing valuable recommendations to business leaders in order to drive decision-making and improve business performance.
  • Assisting in preparing monthly consolidated financial reporting, including historical financial statements, forecast and projection compilations, and actual to forecast variance analysis.
  • Designing and implementing various analytic tools and effective management reporting.
  • Adhering to best practices in report development by creating and monitoring defined review processes and timelines for new and existing reports.
  • Independently identifying and developing process improvements for financial reporting, analysis, and accounting procedures while adhering to internal control guidelines.
  • Partnering with stakeholders throughout the business, including business operation teams, IT, and other areas of the finance team.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Statistics or a related field.
  • You have 5+ years (preferred) of relevant experience in business/data analytics, financial reporting, financial modeling/analysis, finance and accounting systems, or a combination of all of the above.
  • You have strong technical, analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze raw data, draw conclusions and develop and communicate actionable recommendations.
  • You have a working knowledge of financial/analytic modeling, data query/data management techniques and visual analytic tools such as Access, SQL, Business Objects, and Tableau and have the ability to become a proficient user of new software.
  • You are forward thinking and strategic, always keeping long‐term goals in mind when looking for ways to achieve current initiatives and able to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • You are driven, highly organized, and have the ability to see the ROI of time spent on an initiative and prioritize initiatives accordingly.
  • You are a change agent – you hate the answer, “because we’ve always done it this way” and drive continual process improvement.
  • You communicate effectively in writing and in person.
  • You have an eagerness to learn and change the world – Never Satisfied.
