JOB SUMMARY

POET is currently the largest container exporter, exporting feed products to more than 20 countries. We are excited to have recently acquired a rail-to-container transload facility in Savannah, Georgia! By expanding our footprint, we will continue to drive consistency and demand within several of POET’s key markets for Dakota Gold and NexPro animal feed. The Maintenance Manager holds responsibility for supervising all positions within the Maintenance Department and collaboratively working with the leadership team to strategize and optimize terminal performance. This role will assist EH&S and Engineering in coordinating contractors to achieve a safe and efficient completion of the workload. Additionally, this role is tasked with developing preventative maintenance plans including maintenance schedules for process equipment, response to emergency maintenance requests, execution of work orders, maintaining Standard Operating Procedures, and assisting with other plans to maximize terminal performance. Collaborating with third-party vendors, such as equipment rental companies, equipment OEMs, and parts vendors, is also a key aspect of this role. The Maintenance Manager’s leadership plays a pivotal role in ensuring the maintenance team contributes significantly to the overall success of the terminal.

 

DURING A TYPICAL DAY (IF THERE IS ONE)…  

  • Ensure team members are trained in all aspects of existing maintenance procedures.
  • Ensure team members are trained on all equipment needed to do maintenance functions.
  • Troubleshoot and provide root cause failure analysis that affects terminal safety, operation and reliability.
  • Support maintenance team members as well as contractors to ensure tasks are completed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assist the Maintenance team with duties as necessary; this includes, but is not limited to, routine cleaning and testing and working in the field when maintenance is required.
  • Schedule and complete work orders and projects needed for repair or upgrades.
  • Coordinate facility shutdown planning and execution with the site leadership team.
  • Oversee the application and completion of the facility’s preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment and work orders.
  • Maintain the preventative maintenance (PM) and equipment database in the Maximo system.
  • Remove, install, rebuild, weld, torch, lubricate and clean all equipment associated with terminal processes as assigned.
  • Create and present reports detailing maintenance activities, state of terminal equipment, shut down planning and cost control.
  • Contact contractors and vendors to assist in troubleshooting and maintaining terminal equipment as needed.
  • Assist the leadership team in the development of the annual Repair and Maintenance budget.
  • Maintain the spare parts inventory and supplies; support the purchasing function in coordination with the maintenance team.
  • Work closely with other operating departments to reduce or eliminate down time.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, State and Federal regulatory agency policies and rules and assist in implementing approved changes.
  • Ensure all daily documentation and accountability of required mechanical information is completed in a timely and accurate manner.Operate equipment including, but not limited to: automobiles, telehandlers, top lifts, skid steers, tractors, ATVs, front end loaders, man lifts and forklifts.
  • Effectively manage your team by recruiting, selecting, and training team members. Leadership responsibilities also include delegation, coaching and performance management and career development to effectively execute departmental strategies and support company objectives.
  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Post-Secondary Education or other formal training in a technical field preferred.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in a maintenance environment required.
  • 3 years of supervisory and/or managerial experience is preferred.
  • Compliance with POET biorefinery regulations required.
  • Knowledge of LOTO, PPE, confined space entry, hot work, JHA, and other safety procedures required.
  • Experience with Maintenance management systems such as Maximo is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations for both construction and manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.
  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

  • This position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements at all times and in all work environments. The team member may be exposed to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and chemicals. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided to help mitigate the effects of such work environments.
  • Specific physical requirements may include:
    • Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.
    • Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
    • Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.
    • Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.
    • Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
    • Standing for extended periods of time.
    • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Using hand and power tools.
