As a mechanic at POET, team members are responsible for maintaining Class 8 vehicles and keeping them ready for use by our fleet of drivers.

 

DURING A TYPICAL DAY

  • Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and fixing needed repairs.
  • Manage costs by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options.
  • Prepare supplies by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipts.
  • Keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures.
  • Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
  • Since we’re all about teamwork and getting the job done, your skill may be put to a lot of other uses!

 

REQUIREMENTS (WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • The ability to work overtime as needed to keep equipment moving.

 

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • You have 2 or more years of experience in vehicle maintenance, preferred but not required.
  • You can identify worn and damaged vehicle parts.
  • You enjoy determining vehicle conditions by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests.
  • You can maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
  • You know how to comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • You can maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
  • You are interested in increasing job knowledge and awareness by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical and regulation publications.
  • You are willing to learn on the job and explore opportunities that add value.
  • You like helping people and the organization by accepting ownership to accomplish new and different requests.
  • You have strong attention to detail and have a technical understanding of all truck mechanisms.
  • You are dependable and take pride in good communication.
  • You can supply your own tools (specialty tools are supplied).
  • You enjoy documentation, inventory control, supply management, and record keeping.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This role operates in a Class 8 tractor-trailer shop facility. Shop uniform is provided.
  • Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this job, you will be expected to pass a drug screen during the pre-screen process. During employment, you’ll be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
