JOB SUMMARY

The Project Manager will develop and manage multiple capital construction and engineering projects. The Project Manager will be responsible for the development and execution of the scope of work, budget and schedule of the assigned projects including successful commissioning and turnover to the Owner.

 

DURING A TYPICAL DAY 

  • Maintain a safe work record within the group and on project sites. Promote and foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Facilitate project coordination meetings, construction and commissioning progress updates, and other multifaceted personnel interfaces.
  • Manage detailed construction budgets and provide feedback on actual and projected expenditures. Control expenses to maximize profitability while delivering a superior project. 
  • Meet or beat contractual completion dates and manage engineering, procurement, and construction schedules.
  • Report schedule variances on a monthly basis.
  • Review Engineering recommendations and execute purchase orders, contract (including Change Orders), and vendor negotiations.
  • Create detailed construction schedules for use by Engineers, Project Superintendents, and sub-contractors.
  • Monitor construction activity at the construction sites and check for accuracy according to plans, enforce construction safety, and pursue ways to improve efficiency and sequencing.
  • Provide detailed project estimates to appropriate leadership, facilitate project review and kick off discussions with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the project commissioning, including the internal start-up team, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Manage the project commissioning process and personnel through contractual completion.
  • Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • 4 year degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Business required.
  • Experience requirements, preferably in heavy industrial construction environments:
    • Project Manager I: 2-5 years of experience
    • Project Manager II: 5-10 years of experience
    • Senior Project Manager: 10+ years of experience
  • Must possess excellent scheduling and budget management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Project preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.
  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Up to 70% travel will be required for this position: driving/flying, overnight stays. POET provides transportation via corporate and commercial planes and the use of company vehicles. Travel is typically planned in advance and initiated by the team member to meet the needs of the company.
  • In this role, you’ll be asked to drive a POET vehicle. A motor vehicle record check will be conducted during the pre-employment process.
  • The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
  • Specific physical requirements may include:
    • Sitting for approximately 90% of the time while working on a personal computer.
    • Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds or less.
    • Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
    • Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds.
    • Walking of two (2) or more miles per day.
    • Working at heights, in confined spaces, and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees.
    • Standing for extended periods of time.
