JOB SUMMARY

The Accountant is an important part of POET’s Finance Services team. You provide transactional accounting support and analysis, which supports informed, data driven decisions for internal customers and leadership through timely and accurate financial statements. No task is too big or too small – you have a positive outlook and understand the importance of a cohesive and collaborative team.

 

DURING A TYPICAL DAY

  • Perform accounting duties related to the daily administration of the Finance Services team.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the general ledger, including the preparation of journal entries, coding of invoices, account analysis, reconciliations, and month-end close duties.
  • Support the preparation of the monthly financial statements.
  • Assist in the annual financial audit as requested.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis as requested.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of process improvements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with POET business partners.
  • Work in an honest and ethical manner; maintain confidentiality on all business-related
  • Always foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required:
    • Bachelor’s degree, or
    • Associate’s degree with a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to embrace change and work well in a team setting
  • Communicate effectively in writing and in person
  • Able to work in a fast paced, dynamic and changing environment
  • Ability to work with detail and think critically
  • You are a change agent – you hate the answer, “because we have always done it this way” and assist with continual process improvement
  • You know the basics of Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite; you are capable of learning new programs
