JOB SUMMARY

The Financial Reporting Accountant plays an important role on POET’s Finance Services team. You are a key contributor in the preparation of consolidated financial reporting and corporate reporting. You support the delivery of accurate and timely financial information to external parties and internal customers to help inform data driven decisions. You assist the development and monitoring of KPIs, help ensure internal control compliance, and continually focus on process development and improvement. No task is too big or too small – you are positive and understand the importance of a cohesive and collaborative team.

DURING A TYPICAL DAY

  • Prepare accounting entries, monthly reporting, forecasting, and analyses for various functional areas, including shared services.
  • Assist in the preparation of multi-level consolidated financial statements, including intercompany eliminations.
  • Be a key participant in external audits, which includes preparing, reviewing, and communicating with the audit team.
  • Participate in the review and analysis of the monthly forecasted consolidated financial statements, the consolidated annual budget, and related reporting packages.
  • Prepare value-added financial reporting, analysis, and planning.
  • Support shared service departments and other business units’ financials.
  • Build and maintain relationships with POET business partners.
  • Administer internal controls analysis and compliance for your areas of responsibility.
  • Work in an honest and ethical manner; maintain confidentiality on all business-related
  • Always foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain a team environment and champion POET in the community.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field required
  • 3+ years of experience in the accounting field preferred
  • CPA (or CPA eligible) with public accounting experience or experience with financial statement consolidations and financial auditing preferred
  • Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • You are a change agent – you hate the answer, “because we have always done it this way” and drive continual process improvement
  • Communicate effectively in writing and in person
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Experience in building comprehensive reporting packages and dashboards, experience in working in various financial reporting software is a plus
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting system, ability to work with detail, and good organizational skills are a requirement
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
