JOB SUMMARY:

This is an on-site role located in Wichita, KS.

As a Motor Fuel Tax Accountant, you will work in conjunction with others to ensure all areas of compliance are met on both a state and federal level. Sound intimidating? Don’t worry. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Collaborate with teams across the POET system to assist in the efficiency of information flow.
• Learn the ins-and-outs of our process, maintain and update documentation, looking for areas to improve the process.
• Process, verify, and file tax returns for bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual taxes.
• Research tax questions as they come up.
• Have excellent customer service as we work to solve problems.
• Track and enter data, run reports and maintain records related to motor fuel taxes.
• Work with state and territories for annual business reports and license renewals.
• Since we’re all about teamwork and getting the job done, your skills may be put to a lot of other uses!

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: 

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3+ years’ experience in accounting or a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
• Experience working with Microsoft Office including MS Excel and Outlook
• Experience working with financial statements
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills

• You have at least one year of tax experience covering several states and federal
• Interpersonal skills – ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels within/outside the organization
• You know the basics of Microsoft’s Office Suite and are capable of learning new programs.
• Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Desire and ability to embrace and promote change
• Innovative mindset
• Ability to think objectively
• You are a learner, not afraid of taking on new things and stretching yourself. You are not afraid to ask questions, as you’re always looking to improve and help others.
• Ability to work in a team environment
