JOB SUMMARY

As a Rail Logistics Specialist, it will be your job to help coordinate the logistics of our rail fleet, evaluate railcar maintenance and repairs reports, and negotiate the best deals with railroads. You will also track and trace our railcars to ensure our products get delivered to our customers and the railcars get back to our bioprocessing facilities in an efficient manner.  Sound intimidating? DURING A TYPICAL DAY

• Assisting with the tactical day to day activities of POET’s railcar fleet.
• Work with POET’s strategic marketing teams on efficient use of POET’s railcar fleet.
• Actively monitoring the movements of our rail fleet using internal tools and railroad resources.
• Frequently asking yourself questions such as: where do the railcars need to be? Where are they now and how soon will they be coming back? Always working on utilizing our fleet the best we can.
• Consistent interaction with railroads on rail performance and expectations.
• Working with railroads on rail rates and finding the most cost-effective options for our team.
• Working with our bioprocessing facilities on inspections of cars, maintenance and repair expectations and loadout expectations.
• Resolve customer discrepancies when necessary.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

• You have experience with and enjoy all aspects of railroad operations and are naturally interested in how railroads and railcar fleets work and operate.
• You have a Bachelor’s degree or similar real-world rail logistics experience that may include rail dispatching, working with a railroad, railcar fleet coordination or management, or you may have experience in railcar repair and maintenance.
• You have familiarity with railcar fleet operations. You enjoy making sure the railcars are ready for use and utilized effectively across our system.
• You enjoy optimizing processes and finding creative ways to utilize our fleet.
• You always want to get the best value for the company and customer.
• You enjoy solving problems. You don’t get flustered when things don’t go according to plan. You love taking on challenges and finding creative solutions.
• You like helping people. You’re patient and level-headed. You really enjoy exceeding someone else’s expectations.
• You communicate effectively. You write well. You speak articulately. You’re comfortable communicating in writing and on the phone.
• You pay attention to the details. For you, anything worth doing is worth doing right, every time.
• You’re a learner. You’re not afraid of taking on new things and stretching yourself. You’re not afraid to ask questions as you’re always looking to improve.
• You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.
