JOB SUMMARY

POET is currently the nation’s 36th largest container exporter, exporting feed products to more than 20 countries. We are excited to have recently acquired a rail-to-container transload facility in Savannah, GA! By expanding our footprint, we will continue to drive consistency and demand within several of POET’s key markets for POET Dried Distillers Grain and POET Corn Fermented Protein animal feed. Our customers have already come to expect nothing less than the best in food safety and quality from POET, and we will continue to deliver as a trusted partner.

 

We are making improvements to enhance our new location and showcase our world-class safety culture. The Mechanic will assist in all service maintenance of vehicles and machinery needed to support transloading operations.


DURING A TYPICAL DAY (IF THERE IS ONE)…

  • Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret the results to offer suitable solutions.
  • Inspect vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhausts.
  • Repair or replace vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines and other associated parts as needed.
  • Conduct field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown.
  • Test drive repaired vehicles to gauge their performance.
  • Complete oil changes and brake checks.
  • Comply with all 5S safety programs, policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of various machinery around the yard.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Perform installation and maintenance work as part of a team of skilled trade team members.
  • Install, repair and maintain terminal machinery and equipment according to construction plans, blueprints, and other drawings in industrial establishments.
  • Use hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools on a variety of projects.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operation.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • You are a self-driven, energetic, and a team player.
  • Experience in an operating or manufacturing plant environment, terminal operations, or similar environments.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.
  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and in the terminal, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
  • Specific physical requirements may include:
    • Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.
    • Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
    • Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.
    • Data entry while seated for greater than one (1) hour.
    • Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.
    • Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
    • Working at heights, in confined spaces and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees.
    • Standing for extended periods of time.
    • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
